Old Testament prophecies told God’s people about Jesus hundreds of years before His birth.

Immanuel

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call him Emmanuel God with us. Isaiah 7:14

The book of Isaiah, written about 700 years for Christ’s birth, contains the most prophecies of the coming Messiah.  Through him, God gave them specific details about His coming. In this verse, Isaiah tells us that one of the signs will be a son born of a virgin. The very name “Immanuel” means God with us.

In other passages, Isaiah contrasts the life of the Messiah as both the Suffering Servant and the Conquering King. Wonderful Counselor, Lord, Lamb of God, Redeemer and Anointed One are other familiar names used by Isaiah to describe the coming Messiah.

Heavenly Father, thank you for being a God who is always with us. Through your promises, we recognize your faithfulness and know that everything you promise will come to pass.  Amen.
