Worship is a central theme of the first week of Advent. Lisa Robertson tells us more about this day and the holiness of God in today’s Advent reading.
Holiness
“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for you created all things, and by your will, they exist and were created.“ Revelation 4: 11
The Christian Communion celebration includes this passage from Revelation, as a way to emphasize the tremendous power and glory of God. Each time we participate in the Eucharist, we declare that God is holy, mighty and eternal. These inspired words were written as an expression of worship for Jesus, who is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Our worship today prepares us for our worship in eternity. Revelation 5:11, the verse used in the classic worship song “Thou Art Worthy,” reveals the foundation for worship. He created all things and only because of Him do we exist. There is nothing we can do apart from Him and nothing will separate us from His love. Worshiping Christ is a deep expression of gratitude for all that He has done for us.
Praying, singing, listening, serving, and praising are ways the worship experience begins. Almighty God, teach us how to express our love for you. Help us to be free to experience worship. Amen.
Advent Worship Activity
At dinner tonight, gather your family together. Have each person share how the Lord loves and cares for them. Pray together and thank God for the way He loves and cares for us.
