Overcoming Fear
“Don’t be afraid, Mary, for God has decided to bless you. You will become pregnant and have a son, and you are to name him Jesus. He will be great and called the Son of the Most High … and His Kingdom will never end. ” Luke 1 :26-33
Mary began a very ordinary day. She had chores to do, meals to prepare and a life to live. But God had an extraordinary day planned for Mary, and he sent the angel Gabriel to tell her.
Shock and confusion were her initial responses as the angel described a baby named Jesus, the Son of the Most High. The extreme inconvenience of a pregnancy did not hinder her willing heart to accept God’s plan. The angel left her declaring that “Nothing is impossible with God.” With this truth, her fear was soon replaced with joy.
Lord God, we ask that you would help us to be more like Mary in the way she boldly receives and follows your plan for her life. Remind us always that nothing is impossible with you. Amen.
