Magnificat

“My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me -holy is His name.” Luke I :46-49

When Mary and Elizabeth visited together and shared their miraculous pregnancies Mary responded by worshiping God. This great prayer expressed the extraordinary faith of a teenage girl whose life has been drastically changed. Her response to His plan was absolute praise and a passionate declaration of the magnificence of God. She praised His faithfulness to her and future generations. Her words echo Habakkuk 3: 18, “I will be joyful in the God of my Savior.” Both Habakkuk and Mary worship God before they understand exactly what He has done in their lives.

Father God, teach us this day to glorify you. As we look at our circumstances move our hearts from concern to worship, knowing you, the Mighty One, are doing great things for us. Amen.
